But it was too hot on steep ascents to use. Later bike helmets improved on ventilation but on a road bike the road surface ahead was blocked by the helmet and I would need to trim the foam so I could look ahead for obstacles, glass, potholes. On a mountain bike the rider sits upright and so the visor is not going to block their view of the trail ahead and obstacles they need to go around. A helmet is to protect the head but if it blocks the view of the road it can be hazardous and this varies greatly between brands.
